Celebrating National Pest Management Month

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) celebrates April as National Pest Management Month, an acknowledgement that has been in effect for over thirty years! National Pest Management Month honors the professional pest control industry for playing a very substantial role in protecting health and property from notable pest borne threats.

With more than 10 quintillion bugs in the world (that's 10,000,000,000,000,000,0000!), bug- proofing the home can sometimes feel like a losing battle [source: Smithsonian Institute]. Fortunately, by understanding what attracts bugs to your home, you can begin making changes that halt all of your pest control Delaware problems.

The busiest part of the pest season is approaching us very quickly, and so to celebrate National Pest Management Month, Ladybug Pest Control would like to share some valuable tips on how to protect your living space from an array of spring and summer pests – including ants, bed bugs, fleas, rodents, flies, mosquitoes and termites.

The first measure in pest control is to recognize the type of pests infesting your house. This is vital as different kinds of pests require different elimination techniques and you need to make a decision on the most helpful method of pest obliteration.

Set up and maintain screens on all doors and windows. In case you don’t have screen doors on your home, install them. Mend or restore any torn or damaged window screen. Use fine mesh screening to avoid all but the smallest insects from entering your home.

Seal cracks in your home’s foundation and exterior walls. Any tiny crack in the exterior walls of your home is a welcoming sign to pests. Obtain a tube of caulk and check over your home from top to bottom.

Seal around all utility lines and appliance vents. Insects may enter into your home through tiny gaps around your gas line, dryer vent, or even telephone line. Caulk gaps on the outside of your home.

Install pest-proof mesh on vents in attics and all crawl spaces. Raccoon's, mice, and birds will make themselves at home in these areas if you don’t set up barriers to avert them from coming in. These animals can bring fleas, mites, or other pests that will then infest your home.

For bed bug treatments you will want to routinely wash your bed sheets and other upholstered furniture within your home.

You will also want to have an Exterminator in Delaware (that’s us!) come in to analyze your home for any pest that could be hidden in or around the home. Also, don't forget that Lady bug Pest Management has the most efficient scent detection dogs in Delaware that don't skip a beat!
